Reasoning

Reasoning

Did you know every single human has the ability of reasoning? But, do you know many people use it very little? Yes this is the reality, we are in a world that day with day everything is easier for us, but what does it have to do all this with reason, simply that many answers to the questions of life, can be found by the use of reason.

Since I am in philosophy class, I have encountered many things that I did not care before, but now I am interested in many things, and for me one of the most interesting themes, is reason. From the chapter “The truths of reason”, although I found it kind of confusing, I also found it very interesting and what can I say of it, is that those groups that think that human is not a reliable source of information are extremely in the wrong side, since as we saw in the introduction of the book, wisdom is one of the strong points, which helps us to find the truth, so if humans are not reliable, and the knowledge is only given to one person, then we are deep in the hole, because it is supposed that all humans have the same abilities, the only difference is that not everybody applies it.

“Reason is the glory of human nature, and one of the chief eminences whereby we are raised above the beasts, in this lower world.”

Isaac Watts

  1. Hi nestor! after reading your post, I kept the very first thing you said.
Is very sad to have the whole "equipment" to be functional human beings but, not really know how to use it. (Hope this philosophy class can help us on this).
For me, this chapter was very confusing also.. Probably because all the names and descriptions but, since we read about the skeptics, relativism and revelations.... I realize that not everybody can think or reason as I wish they did, and viceversa... meaning, I learned to respect more others´ opinions.
Also I like that you made a connection of this chapter with the introduction of the book, maybe that can help us when we feel a little lost while reading.
    Anyways... great post!

  2. I agree with you Nestor. I think that God gave us a brain to think and reason. Sadly many people don't reason nor think and want everything on their hands. Here in Mexico there art tons of people that everyday want to bother the government and receive money just because they're protesting. I can also agree with the quote above from gaby that says that "I realize that not everybody can think or reason...". I think that what she's trying to say is that we try to understand those one's who can't reason very well.

  3. Nestor, I think that you’re right at the point that everyone can reason, but no one uses the capacity of reasoning in the same way, that’s why everyone’s opinion differs from others. But in the other hand, I think that knowledge through experience is more reliable that knowledge from others. Someone can tell you a fact but maybe it’s wrong and by experience, you can know by yourself what’s true for you and what isn’t.

I agree with you in one of the last points, the one that everyone has the same habilitys but not everyone uses them. All uf us can do things using reason but not all uses them because of lazines, etc. But they are in all of us.

  5. I agree with you Nestor. Everything has to do with reason; many of the the things that we question ourselves can be answered by deep thinking and by reasoning. Experience is the best way of knowing something, you can't always believe what others say. I's better to live it so you can believe it.

  6. Nestor I agree with you, reason is the most powerful tool we posses and unfortunatedly many don't use it a lot. The process of reasoning I believe is quite reliable and I also disagree with does who think there's no universal truth nor knowledge. Knowledge and reason are very important for us from many points of view and therefore we should know that reason is a universal thing. One's reason is universal and thanks to this we can know about different things.
