Freedom in Action

I think we all have thought about the consequences our actions can have, and we are conscious that even if we are free to decide things and actions, we are responsible for them. I know I am responsible for my all actions and the consequences, good or bad that come with it. Even that we are free to decide, want things, and even don’t want; we need to be conscious about our actions, because we are fully responsible of them. Like Savater said “to accept that we are free implies accepting responsibility for what we do.”
I think an important thing we should ask ourselves before deciding to act is to think about the consequences that this action can lead to; this can help us sometimes to avoid some consequences. I am conscious that even if we think about it, we can always do mistakes, we are humans; but we can save troubles.
A great quote that clearly exemplifies the responsibility that we all have for the actions we do is this one said by the character Ben Parker in the first movie of Spider-Man "With great power comes great responsibility." I know it can be referring to Peter Parker’s new power, but what can relate is that Peter have the responsibility on how he choose to use this power, for good or for bad.
As a conclusion, it can be said that when we are faced with a decision, we are free to do it or not; we are free to act or not, and we are responsible for this decision and its later consequences.

  1. You’re right Anthony. People need to be conscious of their own self actions and choices. I mean, people tend to do whatever they want simply because it’s their nature or because of an impulse but they don’t consider what the consequences of their actions could be. Criminals are free to decide if they rob a bank or not, they have a choice which makes them free, but they need to be conscious of their actions and know that if they rob the bank, maybe they may get caught. In order to be free, you need to be responsible.

  2. Anthony I liked your post a lot because it talks about the major subsequent about freedom, which is responsibility. As you establish with several examples, it is something we can't escape but that however we can take a positive responsibility by doing good things. Responsibility doesn't have to be something that people are afraid of since if you do good, good will come; one should take responsibility as something that can help us grow and consider what we do before we do it. This being said, I can conclude from your post and this chapter that freedom comes with luggage, and we should consider this before acting "freely".

  3. Anthony in my opinion your post is great! I liked where you commented about the quote of spiderman and relating it to the theme. I also think that the power of making decisions comes with a great responsibility and that is how we have to act to make things right and bypass negative consequences.

  4. I totally agree with you, especially with what you said about thinking about the consequences before acting, it could save us a lot of problems and prevent us from taking bad decisions that then can’t be fixed; I think that if we all do that most of the problems our society is going through right now could be fixed. Sometimes it is necessary to stop and think about others.

  5. Hi anthony! I liked your post because it mentions a lot the consequences and I think that once we get to know what the consequences are, we can really get to appreciate the "power" we have such a freedom. I think that that's why our parents and teachers punish us, so we can realize what we have and how to choose for the next time with responsability.
